Wet Rot

There is a number of fugal species causing wet rot, they are known as Brown rots and White rots, the same remedial measures are required for the eradication of the fungus. Brown Rots will have cuboidal cracked appearance and white rots will appear Fibrousy and go lighter in colour. All of fungus can be identified by the kind of wood and the developing growths (Mycellium, Strands and Fruiting body). One of Remedial Treatments Surveyors which is C.S.R.T qualified will be able to give a detailed report and advice on the action that should be taken.

Dry Rot

Dry Rot (Serpula lacrymans) is a wood decaying fungus which can course decay in buildings and often causing extensive damage, and has the ability to spread on wood and other cellulosic materials, and can also grow on the surface of brick and plaster. Dry rot is one of the four common brown rots which will attack the cellulose and the hemicellulose of the timber this courses the timber to break down into cubical manner.

Dry Rot may require elaborate measures, it is therefore in the first instance, that an outbreak is identified correctly. One of Remedial Treatments Surveyors which is C.S.R.T qualified will be able to give a positive identification on an outbreak of Dry Rot and then be able to report on this and advice on the action that should be taken.

Wood Boring Insects

Most of the insects responsible for the damage to timber are beetles. The adult beetles lay there eggs on the wood surface, in the bark or splits in the timber, and these hatch into Grub – like larvae which are responsible for the tunnelling and the damage to the timber.

When fully grown, which can take up to five years, the larvae undergo the pupal stage this is when they emerge from the timber as adult beetles.

To eradicate the beetle infestation an industrial strength insecticide is used or if the timer is in a poor condition the timber should be replaced.

One of our qualified surveyors (C.S.RT) will identify the kind of beetle attacking the timber and then will be able to give a detailed report on the action that should be taken.
